Glamour Of The Kill.

In celebration of Halloween and in support of Teenage Cancer Trust, York-based four-piece Glamour Of The Kill are hosting Welcome To The CarnEvil. Taking place on Sunday 30th October at The Loft in Leeds, the metallers are a part of a huge evening of entertainment including DJs, bands, dancers and perhaps a fire-breather or two.
All profits raised from the evening will be donated to Teenage Cancer Trust(registered charity number 1062559), a charity devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer.
Welcome to the CarnEvil is not the first event Glamour Of The Kill have performed at in support of the charity, having taken part in this year’s Sonisphere Secret Sessions at Camden Barfly, London, and visiting the Young Adult Unit at Leeds St James’ Hospital.
After visiting the unit Frontman Davey Richmond said “Teenage Cancer Trust is an amazing charity as it brings all the people who are suffering from this together so they can share their experiences with those who understand what they’re going through. They let children be children, teenagers be teenagers, young adults be young adults. The units are more like youth clubs than hospitals; they listen to what the patients want and strive to make it happen. I had an amazing day being part of the trust and spending time on the ward – I would love to go back again to jam with all the inspirational teenagers!”
Running from 9:30pm to 3:30am the 18+ party (ID required) comes at a price if £5 advance with the dresscode being an appropriate blend of Masquerade, Freakshow or Circus inspired attire that while awesome is not required for entry.

NEMACON: North East Manga & Anime Convention

Nemacon’s first precon event of their 2011 run of events was a roaring success with wall to wall revelers and cosplayers. The event took place on the afternoon of the 4th November, the Sunday following Halloween due to a number technical issues, but still managed to maintain a spooky atmosphere.
Despite being marred by electrical faults which saw the events confined to a single room for the most part (with the exception of cosplay prep), there was an air of excitement which was evident from the sheer noise level.
The event featured a number of games like mummy wrapping and pepper carving with a bundle of anime giveaways which inspired a lot of entertaining chaos while other attendees took part in an manga art class led by Charlotte Fletcher which was in equal parts a crash course in the history of anime and a guide to character creation.

In addition to all the random frantic action and an anime quiz the day saw the announcement of two competitions and plans to run an Nemacon film club. While the younger fans were of the energetic sort who ask rather obscure questions the day was rather enjoyable and informative on the whole. The announcements included the confirmed 2011 dates of June 18th & 19th, details of guests such as Sonia Leong, DestinyBlue, Chie Kutsowada, Akemi Solloway, Jenika Ioffreda and rules and prizes for two extra juicy competitions.

The first was the announcement of the 2011 AMV competition with an extra special secret prize sponsored by Teesside University. the conditions of this music video creation competition were that fans  must keep their content, both audio and visual to an acceptable pg level of content, otherwise their favourite songs and anime are fairgame to be mixed together with extra points for creativity and skill.

The second competition is arguably the cooler; the chance to redesign the official logo and mascot, Nema Chan for the Nemacon 2011 event which will appear on official press, T shirts and other merchandise. The restrictions of this competition are fairly loose, other than the fact that Nema Chan still needs to retain an air of fun loving youthfulness and be recognizable in relation to Nema Chan as we know her. Entrants are free to change the colours, but some elements of the green and pink colour scheme must be present, for instance pink highlights in darker hair. The winner will be able to see their design in use and receive a Tshirt featuring their design even if it doesn’t go into mass production and, of course, a free ticket to Nemacon 2011. Images must be of high resolution(300 dpi)  and submitted in  one of the following formats; JPG, GIF, PNG or PSD. All entries for both competitions are to be submitted to nemacon2010@hotmail.com.
The Winner for the logo competition will be chosen in January 2011.

All in all the day itself and this cluster of announcements have set the mood for an epic event this coming June. The frantic and energetic atmosphere had to be seen to be believed. Browse our gallery to get a feel for it.
