Long time Necromag favourites Evil Scarecrow have recently announced a series of UK tour dates. After opening their gigging year with a performance in Grimsby, the harsh Nottingham metallers are getting ready to bring their titanium-exoskeletoned Robotatron wrath to the venues across the country. Touring from April onwards, including a spot on the bill of Prestatyn’s Hammerfest, Evil Scarecrow will be delighting audiences with a particular flavour of parody metal soaked in the juices of Dimmu Borgir and influenced by a love of all things heavy. Evil Scarecrow are literally the best thing to ever bid “death to Shatner”. I’m not the only one who thinks so either; ranked as one of the top 9 best unsigned bands in the Terrorizer 2008 readers poll, Evil Scarecrow are turning their fair share of heads.
Currently announced dates include:

After briefly touching on this band in our previous podcast, Necromag was proud to finally see this band at the famous Rock City in Nottingham. Setting the suitably black metal mood with tongues placed firmly in cheeks, the Nottingham 5 piece are on top form for hilarity. Suitably making fun of every extreme metal genre by having skulls attached to everything as well as a fake severed hand holding drum cymbals, the band look the part. Put it this way, if your Nan walked in on this gig, she wouldn’t be able to tell that this was parody, and may subsequently void her bowels.
Playing songs from their debut album “Crowcifixion”, their “Hell Dog” EP and their new album “Sixty Six Minutes Past Six”, songs like “Hell Dog” and “Blacken The Everything” are fucking hilarious on their own, but when the band encourage audience participation in the form of Satanic dog howls or “boo-hoo” cries of despair, it’s difficult not to fall in love with them. I once described this band as being the closest thing to Dethklok you will ever get in real life, and when you hear a heavy metal version of the Thundercats theme tune as the ‘Crow perform, i think you will be inclined to agree.
The band are clearly having so much fun whilst pounding out really good heavy metal tunes, which comes across so much in the live performance. The guitar work provided by singer Dr. Hell and Brother Pain is immaculate, from ultra fast shredding to (hilariously) a four note guitar solo like on “Vampyre Trousers” (with drummer Papa Bongo holding up numbers for each of these four notes), the band are dedicated to being at least on par with the music they parody, if not better than a lot of it.
They are not at all afraid of sacrificing themselves for the performance, notably Brother Pain, who willingly threw himself into a sweaty goth crowd in search of high 5′s, and legging it onto the bar for a mammoth solo in the band’s final song, one which sealed the deal for me as a fan, a cover of Europe’s “The Final Countdown.”
Evil Scarecrow have a good strong following in their homeland of Nottingham, and are currently embarking on a UK tour. If they are playing in a town near you, get yourself there, this band are the most fun you can have without a chainsaw. It’s a Satanic Spinal Tap from the Midlands.
