Blind Passenger - Fukushima Slot Machine.

Blind Passenger - Fukushima Slot Machine.

While many around the world are recording and releasing benefit albums to aid the relief efforts in Japan in the wake of the devastation caused by the earthquakes and tsunamis that have rocked their shores almost constantly since 10 March, German act Blind Passenger have taken the bold move to record the song Fukushima Slot Machine in aid of Ausgestrahlt e.V to support their fight for a future without nuclear power plants.

In the wake of the terrifying natural disaster, international news coverage has turned its eye to the struggle to restore the damaged Fukushima power plant to safety, averting a meltdown but still making headlines for the levels of radiation leaking from the plant and into its surrounding areas. This has caused a number of organisations and activists around the world to question the safety of Nuclear power, and Blind Passenger to channel their views into song.

A statement released by the band reads “We all know: Every nuclear power plant is an irresponsible and reckless crime against our future. That’s why we recorded the benefit-song FUKUSHIMA SLOT MACHINE. This song is our contribution to help the people of this world finally recognize this fraud and stop this nuclear insanity! We will donate 100% of the FUKUSHIMA SLOT MACHINE-earnings to the organisation “ausgestrahlt e.V.” to support their fight for a future without nuclear power plants.”
The song is currently available to stream at: www.myspace.com/blindpassengerofficial and is available to purchase on many download sites.
The song is a mix of synths, digitally altered almost robotic vocals and news samples that doesn’t beat around the bush with its message, directly targeting the Fukushima reactors.

The band have also defended their choice of cover art arguing that “This picture shows exactly what nuclear power does to people. No image can be shocking enough to fully portray the suffering which this uncontrollable technology causes”.
A remix kit has also been released allowing fans to have some creative input on subsequent releases of the single or record different lyrics altogether. Instrumental tracks of the song  are available for free use here:
