Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

Indie comics phenomenon Scott Pilgrim is coming to screens of all sizes this August. The geeky illustrated epic with 8bit influences tells the tale of Scott who has to battle for his new obsession Ramona’s love by defeating her 7 evil exes. Picking up coins and powerups along the way the mop haired slacker icon Scott featured in the 6 volume comic series has been an inspiration to artists everywhere and is soon to appear on the big screen as Scott Pilgrim Vs The World finally makes it to UK cinemas on the 25th of August.

To accompany this release is possibly the greatest film/comic/computer game tie-in in the shape of a side scrolling co-op world of  pain. Never before has such indie comic angst exploded in full colour to a chip-tune soundtrack. Between the final volume, which has only recently been released, the film adaptation, already receiving rave reviews and the game, which is not only stylistically accurate but seems to have touches of the over the top breath taking action seen in the animated shorts of Paul Robertson (most notably Pirate Baby Cabana Battle Street Fight); the Scott Pilgrim experience is a multimedia phenomenon that looks to have the potential to be all kinds of awesome. This downloadable title will be available from August 10th on PSN and the 25th for Xbox Live Arcade users.

Completed shortly before the release of the final volume creator Bryan Lee O’Malley has stated that while the endings differ he is satisfied with both. Returning to the source material the final volume of this series was released during San Diego Comic Con and neatly ties together all the loose ends of the series. Many of these loose ends, such as the glowing aura around Ramona’s head are rumoured to have been dropped for time or pacing in the film. Whether this admitted inconstancy throughout the adaptations enriches the multi-platform release of the franchise remains to be seen.
For all the content flashbacks and asides that are likely dropped in the finished movie, on the 12th, when the film was released in America, an animated short showing when Scott first meets drummer, Kim Pine was broadcast and has since been hosted online at Adultswim.com. This fits the overall feel and look of the original book perfectly and eases you into accepting that Michael Cera IS Scott Pilgrim. Early reports are setting standards high for the film but you can judge for yourself in just a few short weeks. Hopefully If you scroll down to take a peek at the animated short, trailers for the movie and official tie in game you’ll have more than enough ‘Pilgrim to tide you over.
