DDD Toys, Your Link To Bondage.

DeSades Digital Deviancy. The name says it all, dirty things at filthy prices; ranging from leather-wear and gags, to toys, shackles and other assorted kink. De Sades Digital Deviancy or DDD Toys for short are one of the newer names on the market but are quickly building a name for themselves.

With a name reminiscent of the god of perversion, the french aristocrat and  renowned sexual libertine, the Marquis De Sade, DDD has a lot to live up to in terms of reputation.
I interviewed DDD Toys business owner Philip James Harker to find out what inspired the business and he was happy enough to answer a few questions on what being a purveyor of kink means in this day and age, and how changing views on  sex have effected the market.

DDD Toys: Hell Bent For Leather

Necromag: What inspired you to open a web store, much less one selling your kind of products?
I’d been toying (pun intended) with the idea on and off for a while and decided to buy a couple of items of bondage gear – restraints, balls gags, crops, canes, as well as some home made fur/leather spanking paddles – to try and sell since we had the stall at Whitby in November. The stuff sold reasonably well so I placed an order with the same guy for a bit of other stuff – vibes, glass dildos, cock rings etc – to test the waters to see if I could make a go of it. After placing the order I got a call off the guy who was selling me the stuff asking if I’d be interested in buying him out totally as he had other business interests that were more profitable & he didnt have time to continue with it. Taking this as a sign we took a 730 mile roundtrip to devon just after xmas and filled a van with sex toys.

Necromag: Is there an overlap between the alternative music subcultures and fetish ones?
The Bondage/Fetish/S&M Scene does seem to have a heavy cross over with the Alt/Goth scene, PVC/Leather/Latex/Rubber definitely plays a big part in that.
Thanks to the acceptance & open-ness in the Alt scene people can explore their fantasies without judgment.

Are sex toys more socially acceptable thanks to their exposure in popular tv dramas and high street stores like Ann Summers?
Definitely, they are now much less taboo. Ann Summers parties are quite a big part of the female bonding process now, especially when it comes to hen & birthday parties. It has also became a regular thing on programs like This Morning, featuring items such as The Sqweel and other toys. The big changing point was when the Original Rabbit was featured on Sex & The City, if it wasnt for that program sex toys would probably still be a dirty little secret bought under the counter.

Have you vended at any events?
Other then what was sold at Whitby in November we haven’t sold at any other events.

Whats the next for DDD?
Nothing planed at the moment, but we are looking into other events, as well as parties and such.

Do you feel it has a solid place in any goth event like WGW?
I think some of the events could be a bit too ‘family friendly’ to really be able to sell dildos/vibrators etc, however the bondage stuff would no doubt be more accepted in their place.
