Korn have been hard at work for months laying down tracks with legendary metal producer Ross Robinson. The new album, entitled KORN III : Remember Who You Are is due for release in july and is already showing signs of a return to their early sound.
In an interview with The Pulse of Radio Korn Singer Jonathan Davis explained that “It’s gonna be very raw, it’s gonna be old school like the first KORN records”.
“Basically, it’s gonna be recorded as a four-piece band, with just Munky on guitars and Fieldy (bass) and Ray(Luzier; drums) and me. We really want to go back to that old-school vibe. It was just really intense and emotional and, you know, I have a lot of built-up aggression toward certain things that I need to get out for this record.”
Davis has also mentioned that the lyrics on the album will deal with the topic of organized religion. A topic quite close to the band after guitarist Brian “Head” Welch left the band when he became a born-again Christian and Fieldy’s discussion of his conversion to Christianity in his memoir.
Korn have also found a new home for the band on the Road Runner records label who have also decided to stream your first peek at the new raw sounding song Oildale.
Oildale casts aside all the instrumental pretension seen in KoRn’s music following Jon’s work on the Queen of The Damned soundtrack with the gritty aggression most visible on the first 3 releases. Hopefully the entire album will carry the same hard rocking sensibilities that made the Bakersfield boys as pioneers of the entire Nu-metal scene.
