A poet, a prophet, a rock and roll star. The heroic and bold comedian Bill Hicks was a lot to a lot of people. He stood up for what he believed in, screamed truth from the stage and got a few laughs along the way. Satire and shock comedy are nothing new, by any stretch of the imagination but Bill Hicks inspired a generation with his sheer courage and fury. The strange thing is despite dying 1994 his material barely seems to have aged. He railed against the Bush administration and the Iraq war, fundamentalist Christianity and bellowed his views on smoking, sex and life from stage to screen while simultaneously teaching people how to enlighten themselves and regain control of their own mind.
Sadly the mans life was cut short just as he tried to save the world. The new documentary film ‘American: the Bill Hicks Story’ introduces a new generation to the man and his powerful material, as well as giving you valuable insight to his life on and off the stage.
Randy Pan the Goatboy lives on.
