Psyborg Corp - The Mechanical Renaissance

The Mechanical Renaissance is not quite the rebirth of EBM but marks the first full length release by Colombian electronic act Psyborg Corp.  The futuristic subject matter of the Corps lyrics aren’t exactly unique within the genre, but the blend of surging trance inducing synths, catchy drum loops and brutal vocals give you a glimpse of a new school in EBM.
The Colombian Corp shy away from the militaristic stomp on a majority of their tracks, though it is noticeable in Haternation and Interdimensional Hyperdrive; at least before the song fully kicks-in in its second half, but in its entirety neatly wraps together all the elements of their sound.
Biopunk Lab has well used samples throughout and along with Bionic Enhancement adds what could only be described as the sonic signature of their cyber  tinged sound.
Beyond anything about the band you could discard as a gimmick, this is EBM at its core.
Harsh EBM with instrumental support you may expect to accompany softer electronic genres like darkwave. The surprising thing about this mix is that it works. This is a good record and an exceptional debut from a a band that prior to this release have always had high production values and seem completely committed to their music.
The Bogota troupe have added a new edge to modern EBM and perhaps mark the tip of a new tide of music from Colombia.
