I’m not normally one for bothering with singles if I’ve already got or heard the album but the second single release from Rammstein’s Lieb Ist Fur Alle Da features a remix which not so much piqued my interest as make me cry ‘why god why?’
The track ‘Ich tu dir weh’ which follows the comical and controversial ‘Pussy’ is typical Rammstein fare with a tongue in cheek attitude to all things Deutch and depraved but the single itself caught my eye for one horrid element. The Scooter remix of ‘pussy’, which is hillarious or hideous depending on what way you swing. With those pounding beats and cries of ‘Tils got the skills’ is it any wonder he can’t get laid in Germany?
The title track translating as ‘I hurt you’ is bigger than all this baggage. Barred from set lists in Germany, banned from release and struck from the album in germany, austria and switzerland Ich tu’ der weh is sung with sense of pain behind it, a lovelessness aswell as the sting of barbed wire in your urethra and salt in the bloody wounds of kinky play. It is perhaps more for the subject matter than the fact Mr Linderman has tears in his eyes that The Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien or BPjM (Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons) felt this song should be suppressed. Me? I find the material, though on paper shocking, blackly hillarious and exactly what we’ve come to expect from the band. The song is also a rhythmic change of tack, posessing more of a stride than a stomp making this quite possibly the least sacharine ballad I have ever heard.
From February 15th, in addition to the Scooter mix, the cd single ships with a further two mixes including the “Rammin’ The Steins” Remix of Rammlied By Devin Townsend of Strapping Young Lad fame and the “Smallboy” Remix of Ich tu dir weh By Jochen Schmalbach, with the “Fukkk Offf” Remix By Bastian Heerhorst available on the 12″ white Vinyl edition and your pick of the whole bunch in the Digital Ep.
You can also access the video for Ich tu dir weh internationally despite the ban at http://www.visit-x.net/rammstein, which has been hosting the video since December.
