To those with a thirst for online gaming, role play, and the worlds of might and magic we call fantasy, the World of Warcraft just got a whole lot larger with a The Secrets of Ulduar Patch (3.1.0) [with an official preview hosted here].
Last year, the expansion Wrath of the Lich King was released, granting players access to a whole new continent, new quests and a brand new class known as the Death Knight. The lore of this add on sent adventurers to the frosty northern wastes to take down the lord of all undead and former paladin, Prince Arthas Menethil, now going by the snappy little title of The Lich King. Now this story has been playing out for a few months with players, stabbing, looting and grinding their way through Northrend towards the new level cap of 80, and in search of brand new equipment.
Just to keep things fresh and push forward the storyline, a new dungeon and a new threat to the world of Azeroth has been added to the game.
Wait a sec? Whats going on?
Ulduar is an ancient prison, created by the titans, ancient world shaping creatures which have been a big part of the “Wrath” storyline. Dwarven archaeologists, in fighting to find the answer to where they really came from have accidentally unleashed the old god of death, Yogg Sarron, onto the world again.
When this news hits, well, People get angry….
What does all this mean to those playing the game?
It means the game now has a new raid, for players to take to in 25 man teams, battle through a new array of bosses, new quests, and new loot rewards.
Outside of fighting titans and gods, Players now have the ability to customize their character for multiple situations with the new dual spec function.
Dual Spec allows the player to build two distinct talent trees which they can switch between at no charge between battles.
And on top of this?
Its tournament time!
In game faction The Argent Dawn have decided, the best way to train to take down the undead is to ride horses and hit each other with sticks, so guess what? now you can too.
The tournament consists of a mounted combat system, and a series of new daily quests in an combined effort to build an arena for the event.
Thus far the event and its new combat system has proved reasonably easy to handle, with quests having amusing twists to keep players interested as they work their way to proving they are worthy to compete.
Appropriately enough, rewards include new mounts and some adorable non-combat pets, such as the Elwynn Lamb for the human player. It remains to be seen how well received the patch is but current responses seem quite positive.
