After providing writing credits for The Dark Night, David S. Goyer offers us this supernatural horror/thriller, starring Odette Yustman (although you could be forgiven for thinking it was her perfectly sculpted arse that starred in the film due to the promotional campaign for this movie) and screen legend Gary Oldman. Yustman stars as a young girl haunted by a creepy looking child, who happens to be her Unborn twin brother who died in the womb. On the basis of this, you would also be forgiven for thinking that this was going to be a run of the mill Hollywood horror where the scares are about as predictable as the cheesy dialogue. And for the most part, you would actually be wrong. Given the complexity of The Dark Knight, it has been proven that Goyer can write, and write well. So this movie delves a little bit deeper than most, involving Nazi experiments gone awry (Yes, ANOTHER FILM INVOLVING NAZIS), superstitious Jewish Lore and as a treat for the more occult orientated film fans, a fair bit about Kaballah and the Sephirot.
The acting is good from all cast members, well, what did you expect from Gary Oldman? The scares are, well, scaryish. When Goyer realises that he doesn’t have to rely on jumps to provide creepiness the film really does kick the shit out of most “horror” films out at the pictures over the last few months.
Award winning? No. Memorable? Not really. Good? Yeah, not bad at all. At least go see it for the chick’s ass.
