Blind Before Dawn are an electro-goth 3 piece from Manchester. we at Necromag recently recieved a 3 track sampler as a precursor to their their full length album, Regress/Progress, due out this February on Mandrax Industries/Rebco Records.
Treading the tightrope between goth, ebm and industrial Blind Before Dawn are a hardworking band whose name regularly appears on the goth circuit, recently having been seen at Redcar club, Afterlife.10th-jan-after life club -blind before dawn.
The new album is something of a best-so-far disc, looking back on 10 years of unreleased tracks and reworkings along with highlights from their previous CDr album “Distance” with the added incentive of 3 all new tracks to round off the 13 track release.
The strong suit of this darkwave tinged trio’s promo lies in the synth tracks of Mat Lahan, most visible on disintegrity which mesh seamlessly with the guitar of David Novan.
while Davi Lovatt, singer and songwriter is tuneful on the whole the tragically typical goth fare of echellon is a slight downfall for this band but once again disintegrity shows the potential of this act.
The surging wall of sythesizers and drum machines that is the club edit of Illusion compliment the work of Lahan perfectly as well as making up for Lovatt’s blunder on track one.
The lovelorn dirge of disintegrity has the rhythm and energy that would easily make BBD a dancefloor hit with the right steering.
Oddly enough “Regress…” is touted to include heavier, more intricate guitar work which will share the limelight with more mature songwriting and performance from frontman Davi.
As flag ship act of Mandrax Industries a lot is pinned on the rise of BBD.
In addition to their impressive live reputation this retrospective/futurespective looks set to launch BBD anew despite already possessing an admirable 10 year back catalog of tracks llike Samui, the powerful guitar heavy Strangers and Breaking the Haloes.
Besides the tracks on the promo disc I recommend you hear the more soulful In Deinen Augen, currently available to stream on their [Myspace].
The Mancunian trio wilkl soon be seen rearing their heads at the Leeds Goth Night Mortalled on Friday 13th February (listed [here]).
