The Day That Finally Came

Posted on August 28, 2008 in the Music, News category

One week ago i was in Heaven. Drunk as a bastard in Leeds festival, the blurry fuzz of the boombox radio a friend had brought began to speak magical, fantastical things to me. It was talk of an impending event that would shake the earth to its core. The new single by Metallica, first, anywhere in the world, ever, on Radio One. After taking a few more swigs to make sure i was still alive and indeed rocking out, i heard the opening guitar tinkle to “The Day That Never Comes”, the 40th single by this band, that have done more for heavy metal, and indeed alternative music in general, than any other band. Fact. You can take that to the bank and fucking cash it. A new Metallica single is a historic event, especially since promising that new album “Death Magnetic” would be NOTHING like St. Anger. And if this single is anything to go by, the band have more ideas and life in them than ever. This is nothing like they have done since “The Black Album”, its a solid reminder of why they used to be seen as a progressive thrash metal band back in the 80’s, and appear to be re-living those glory days all over again. The riffs are catchy, the vocals pure classic Hetfield, the drumming is fast and fresh and the solos are all accounted for. This is a brilliant return to metal form from the band who perfected it. The only thing that made hearing this on the radio for the first time ever was seeing it performed for the first time ever on the Friday night at Leeds fest. Metallica loves you, baby!

Hear the song at this very location. METAL UP YOUR ASS!
