Carnival of the Bizarre 11th July
Posted on July 23, 2008 in the Film, News category
Little over a week or so ago, the circus came to town. A circus of lechery and pain. A circus of Horrors. This time shrunk to a trio of performers incarnated as The Carnival Of The Bizarre. This took Place in What was previously a cozy and dank venue known as the Georgian Theatre. While the name has not changed, the building itself has had an amazing makeover of late boasting an impressive sound system and lighting set up.
As Ring-Master Dr Haze takes to the stage all eyes are on him in his bone laden tailcoat and top hat; Blasting out their theme tune “Welcome To The Carnival”, While Haze’s cohort Captain Dan Dances along.

Shortly after this appearance we’re introduced to the man in the jar. The Mongolian Laughing Boy, a sleazy rubber skinned man in a loin cloth with a tongue that barely stops waggling for the entire performance. As the line up becomes complete we are introduced to the talents of this evenings entertainment primarily being the amazing pain threshold of two individuals under the commanding rule of Haze. Firstly e’re treated to an unconventional card trick where dan staples half a deck to himself This is followed by the light snack of a broken bulb and washed down with a bottle of beer opened by dans own eyesockets. The bottles themselves did not go to waste as they were added to a bucket already full of broken glass for both the captain and the mongolian to frolic upon; jumping bare foot and lying face first, at one point with over 20stones worth of audience participation pressing upon them into a bed of broken glass.
the carnival continued with more pain, more skewering and more of the laughing boy with needles plunged through his skin, cheeks and neck. This all worked towards the climax where he sat in an electric chair, shocked volunteers and powered a few lights. even dan got in on the act after some aerial toilet humor by powering a piece of strip lighting rectally.

The night was well received with crowds equally baying and cheering throughout. Its impressive turnout helped the night come into its own later on as the lights came down and all manner of UV reactive, punk and goth attendees took to the floor, topped off with the spectacular Poi performances of Silver and John, who made the whole night possible.
With every event the G seems to be making strides forward, improving with every step. While The asylum crew have more than their hearts in the right place as tonight marks another amazing job well done.
