Whilst on the brink of what could have been a disastrous weekend, but in fact actually turned out ok (like most things in life), your fellow Ox and GIR took the Mirthmobile to the @rena (at-rena?) on Friday night with a couple of sexy laydies and a man called Boot. Now, it’s been a while since I last entered this infamous building for a rock night, and after the disastrous idea to host a rock night on a Monday firmly in the past, im glad to report it was indeed as fantastic an environment as it ever was. After paying brief respect to a fallen comrade (The Acklam, shithole though it was, no longer exists to serve Pre-arena booze action) we entered the building which i’m sure houses more than enough memories to all NecroMag readers.

So, the crack. Three rooms. Three Genres of music. Cheap drinkage. More than a fair share of our time was devoted to the Goth/Cyber room, which to be fair has a fantastic DJ but no need for the games machine. It is a bit ridiculously small but i’m sure as the weeks go on this small space will be full at some point! The Indie room was, ok. Good atmosphere, people clearly pilling and an easily accessible bar with, I hate to say it, good tunes is better than any night I have had at fucking Sumo. The metal room, upstairs to suit tradition, was fantastic. Plenty of room to stand and sit, one shit live band followed by a fucking great one, and MEEETTTTTAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL up your arses.

Being the Crown Whore i am, come 2am i was ready to leave, mostly cos i’m not used to being drunk and awake at that ungodly hour, but the Arena is indeed open till half 3.

Better range of music, better crowd, cheaper entry than Sumo, cheaper Drinks than Sumo, awesome burger van outside, made for a fantastic night out.

There’s still that fucking mess on the floor that sticks to your shoes though.
