All Naked, All The Time….

A Reminder Of The Dangers Of Following Cults

Posted on March 20, 2008 in the News category

I have always been interested in cults and religion. The idea of sacrificing oneself to follow a religious doctrine and commit to it is always a strange and difficult one. When religion works it can provide a great deal of comfort and support to those who need it. I feel sorry for people who cant open their minds enough to attempt to at least ask the question of why we are on this little rock and who put us here. But often this can go wrong. One might remember the incident in the USA called the Jonestown Massacre, where 900 people were killed in a murder/suicide at the behest of leader Jim Jones. This cult, guising under the church name the People’s Temple, followed the words of a leader who claimed to stand for the equality of
others, yet gave his followers simple meals of rice and beans while he took their money and life savings, and feasted on meat and food from his private refrigerator, forcefully stopped people from leaving through pressure and then force. And he convinced them that this was a good life for them. One cannot help but make parallels between the techniques employed here and by another larger, more current cult, guised as a Church and endorsed by the gods of Hollywood. Scientology.

Mankind does not have the power, the ability or the right to tell people how to lead their lives. This is because mankind is fundamentally flawed. People who are weak minded will latch on to people who claim to have answers, and this is the basis of cult phenomenon. While Scientology has not ever endorsed or encouraged suicide (as far as we are aware), any religion or cult that asks people to give us a lot more than their time or attention is something to be wary of. Scientology asks for loyalty, money, and devotion, and has lied to and harassed many people who oppose it. This is fact. And if you can sit through this video without the word cult passing through you’re head, I will be amazed.

Jim Jones final speech can be listened to here. This harrowing audio tape is the final speech made as he instructs his followers to kill themselves under lies and threats of a false enemy (he claimed people in a plane are going to come and torture them and their children.) The power of suggestion is often enough to lead people to these atrocious acts. Charles Manson is another example.

Beware of all cults. Beware of mankind. Every generation has people claiming to be prophets and bringers of good, when in fact their motives are ones of greed and self gain. You have your own mind and your own ability to find peace in your own way. If you should find God and peace in the process, so be it. To quote Tim Leary;

“Think for yourself, question authority”
