Oxking On March - 5 - 2008

On the whole the entire Necromag team enjoyed this event and seeing as we were both there we thought you aught to see both sides of the story. Welcome to our first dual authored blog.

From Girrable’s Perspective:
Well, well, well; Ladies everywhere. And a good proportion in the crowd. While some people may consider this kind of event to be a wholly masculine affair I assure those ladies were going wild as much as the testosterone fueled were.
I was there from a little after the doors opened and the place was packed. People from all corners of Teesside were there, some expected, some not. From Eva Braun’s first performance, an alluring rendition of “I’ve got you under my skin” The Festivities commenced.
Eva Braun and her Delicious Performance
Now, this was more than a musical number.. Eva, in her skull busted outfit, began to peel away her clothing and her skin. A performance she has come to describe as Gorlesque. In the recent promotional materials for the Flaming Ace the point was quite clearly made that “Things Are a Bit Different Now” and they are. The Aces is spreading its wings both from what kind of entertainments they provide and the very definition of what you can do in the the boundaries of burlesque.
Violet Magenta
Another way to push the definition comes from fellow performer, and second on the bill Violet Magenta, with her Cyberlesque. All pink, rubber/foam-tipped and luminescent. The performance itself was traditional burlesque with its flourishes coming in the costume and soundtrack.
Madame Ghoulina
The crowning moment of the night came when madame Ghoulina took to the stage and to her throne. Open faced razors, skewers through her very flesh and a bloodied naked frame were enough to bring many to their knees or maybe a tad more upright. for me the show was made with this very performance and I hope to see more of the sort in another show. And there will be another. One of the best moments of the night was discovering it wasn’t to be a one off, with at least one more already on the Horizon. Details for which can be found on our events calendar and the official myspace.

From the Oxking’s Perspective:
I arrived at the beautiful Georgian just in time to catch the last few performances of the evening. It really is pointless describing the acts themselves, you have to be there to feel the vibe and the atmosphere which nights like this create. Eva Braun, Violet Magenta and Madam Ghoulina are all very beautiful women using their sexuality and raw power to put on shows that have EVERYONE’s attention. This is what nights like this do, they give respect to everyone and everything alternative. The tagline for the Ace when it first started almost a year ago said “No room for bad attitudes or inhibitions”, it’s good to see that this still is the case. Say what you want about the North East, it’s alternative scene is alive and well, nights like this are testament to that.

As for the new venue, I’ve been a Georgian lover since i was a wee mini mosher, so in my opinion the Ace is more welcome here than at Bianco’s. The lack of dance floor proved a bit of a problem, but im sure that will be sorted in the coming weeks. Oh, did i forget to mention that the next Ace will be on 28th March. Necromag will keep you informed of the acts as and when they happen.
