Its that time again. As the weekend rolls around Necromag delivers its summary of the entertainment on offer, and boy, this weekend its a doozy! Between tonight and tomorrow the region explodes with a Triumvirate of Burlesque; a three pronged attack on the senses which is guaranteed to allure.
The Flaming Ace
Tonight sees the return of The Flaming Ace. At one time this was the highest quality and most regular of Northern Burlesque events and now the ‘Aces returns to retake the mantle. While previously held at Bianco’s, a cosy little venue on Prince Regent Street, Stockton, this event will now take place within the soaring ceilinged venue of rock history that is The Georgian Theatre. Ticketed and costing the usual £5 entry The Flaming Ace Promises to be impressive and scintillating.
InArcadia Voodoo Cafe Burlesque
Next up we have Darlington’s contribution to the lady flesh fest of the Leap year weekend.
Held at clothing/coffee outlet InArcadia/Voodoo Cafe. Running for the past 3/4 months and featuring more slashes in their description than I can be bothered to type this event still seems something of a mystery to the Teesside folk behind Necromag. What we do know is that it Runs at the same time EXACTLY as the Aces, so make your choice people. More info and some choice images are available on their Myspace “here”.
The House Of The Golden LotusLastly, we have rising stars of Northern event promotion Growling Clown Entertainment tossing their hat into the ring with The House Of The Golden Lotus, coincidentally rumored to feature one of the same performers as the Flaming Ace but a day later and an hour down the A1. Growling Clown themselves have been making waves and strides in their event promotion and seem to be quite prominent. Coming soon even, they seem to have a matinee burlesque event on the cards and have their fingers in many cream pies associated with the Newcastle Comedy Festival coming next week.
Between these three events there are many lovely ladies and most probably many amazing things to experience. So Necro Readers, There is a reason to leave the house.

If Flesh isn’t your thing then there is always The Nunnery of Noise. The third showing for this Cyber Goth EBM night. Musically in the region this night is unique in that the closest rival it has is all the way yonder over in Leeds with monthly Goth Club The Wendyhouse and its EBM wing know as Mutate. Its kind of silly to promote the night like this, suggesting N.O.N. will always be in Mutates shadow, but from my experience of the night itself, the Nunnery features skilled and informed DJ’s playing music the likes of which you are not likely to hear anywhere else. Professional, Glossy and Uv Reactive the Copy for this event marks out the commitment the organisers have to making this event a success. So If you’re up for a bit of the old stompy stickwaving (the Glowing kind) or just fancy listening to the beats and curious mixes come by this Saturday.

Emilie Autumn
Coming somewhere between the ruffles and tassels of erotic resurgence and the electronic musical clash of the cybernetic we have the faerie of Chicago and this weeks musical recommendation. In Emilie Autumn We see and hear the soaring femininity and Glorious pinkness of a girl who has somehow managed to escape a Victorian Asylum and develop the technology of the synthesizer and drum machine decades before anyone else. Stylistically in almost every context Emilie is quite unique. Having been classically trained on the Violin as a child the inclusion of this instrument in her work is far from gimmicky in its execution, and having toured with both the Smashing Pumpkins and Courtney Love her music, merchandise and image are all quite industry and audience savvy. Indeed over the past year there has nary been an alternative music magazine that didn’t at least mention the lady in passing. With he Asylum tour coming in April it would appear that in Europe her popularity is finally set to crystallize.
Her music is the glorious lovechild of classical music and electro goth, and lyrically comes in featuring equally sized spoon fulls of Tori Amos, Morrissey and The Cruxshadows. Perhaps less on the latter, as while Emilie Is of Goth interest she isn’t one to single herself to this pidgeon hole. One track remix of note that allows her to cross genre is that of the Brendan Small mix of recent single Liar. An awesome thrash metal mix returned in kind with her rare violin edition of the Metalocalypse theme tune (theres a challenge for you! Find that one!. You may have heard her and not noticed with track Organ Grinder being featured on the Saw 3 soundtrack but as with many bands You will either grow to love Emilie or simply not understand the appeal. Find out for yourself at either her myspace or by purchasing some of her music from many fine online outlets.

Until Next time,
Don’t dream it, Be it.
