Jowely Eat World Gig Review!

The term “emo” is passed around a lot these days and, kinda like the F word, has lost a lot of it’s relevance. Jimmy Eat World have always done the smart thing and kept their look, appearance and sound always a little to the left of the genre many music snubs have been all too quick to pigeonhole them into. Tonight they once again prove how much of a good ROCK band they are, irregardless of genre or style they get named. Bursting onto stage to launch into “Big Casino”, the first single off new album “Chase This Light”, Jimmy have the crowd pumped for a catalogue of hits, each song sung by the adoring Leeds crowd. Jim Adkins voice is as powerful live as on record, each note sung to perfection, whilst dancing his arse off on stage. The last time I saw Jimmy was at Birmingham Carling Academy, in a room about a quarter the size, and that was one of the best gigs of my life, so this was a toughy to beat for me! Crowd pleasers “Salt, Sweat, Sugar”, “Pain” and new songs “Dizzy”, “Always Be” suit a crowd this pumped up, drunk and ready for action. The new Butch Vig produced album contains a well-produced, incredibly radio friendly set of songs, which played here live seem to take on a new life, as if they were made to be played loud and fast. Personal favourite songs for me “Here You Me”, “23″ and “Disintegration” were not present on the last tour just over two years ago, and hearing them live tonight was an added bonus that I was incredibly happy with, to top off a perfect night in Yorkshire. Jimmy Eat World are a fantastic live band and their legions of fans will ensure that they are around for a long time yet.
